Tour the historic house with its splendid rooms and priceless treasures, including diamonds and jewels and family portraits by Lucian Freud.

Check out the ‘What’s on’ page for special events such as the Easter Extravaganza, various Farmyard & Garden Discovery Days for different age ranges, the famous Country Fair, the Halloween Hoot, Bonfire Night, and Christmas markets and nativity performances.

Where to stay

See our destination guide to the Peak District and Derbyshire  for local recommendations, or see Chatsworth’s own website for traditional holiday cottages and hotels on the estate.

When

The opening times are generally 11am–6pm but check the website for slight variations and Christmas arrangements.

How

This Peak District attraction 60km (37 miles) south-west of Manchester is easily accessible by major roads, especially the M1. The nearest train station is Chesterfield on the East Midlands Line, about 25mins away by bus, and there are also buses from Bakewell, Buxton and Sheffield.

Eat

You’re welcome to picnic in the beautiful gardens (stocking up on local treats from the farm shop if you like), or you can enjoy hot meals in the Carriage House Restaurant, tea and cake in the Cavendish Rooms, or family-friendly food in the Farmyard Café.

Cost

You pay £2 per car, plus separate admission fees for each part of the estate or (the most advisable option) all-in Discovery tickets, which costs just under £50 per family, or about £5 less if you book online in advance. (Note that if you pay an extra 10% in the form of a Giftaid donation, you’ll get a voucher worth 15% of the total entry price you paid to spend in the restaurant or shops.)
