We launched our Take the Family’s Best Ever Awards scheme in November 2011, with the aim of providing a great resource for families. We know from our own experience how hard it is to sift through all the information, and that, when you are new to taking trips with your family, deciding where to go can be really tricky.
We've called them the Best Ever Awards for two reasons. First, we really do want this to be a definitive list of the best places to go. And second, to reflect the phrase that all parents would like to hear at the end of a family trip, when their children sit back and say: "Wow, that was the best ever holiday!”
Every few months we’ll be unveiling a new award winner that represents the best of its kind so that you can be confident that you’ve really made the best holiday choice. We've turned to the experts to help with these awards. First we have a panel of writers at TaketheFamily who really have toured the beaches, the resorts, the cities and the hotels, and all with families in mind. We’ll be asking them to come up with shortlists for each award. Then we’ll find a panel of expert judges to cast their votes.
Our voting system was the idea of Take the Family founder Andy Cook, who’s one of those MBA types. Each judge has ten points to distribute across each category according to how they rate the nominees. The first time the team was a bit sceptical about whether it would work, but it did - which just shows that those MBAs are worth something!
There will be room for some online voting in the future, and we want you our readers to feel free to comment on the experts’ choices if you disagree.
