Champneys - Tring
by Suzanne Baum
20 August 2007
Having just spent two days lazing around in my dressing gown I feel calm, relaxed
and ready to take on my two boys, aged three and four. Far from being poorly,
my weekend-the first without kids-was in fact spent at the Tring resort of Champneys-the
ultimate in luxury. Having spent the week in the run up to our visit nursing
both my kids through nasty bouts of tonsillitis I felt in need of a little pampering
myself. Champneys proved the perfect place to help me unwind with my husband.
Although a first-class hotel, the spa's dress code is nothing short of the Champneys
towelling robes that every guest seemed to adorn, even during breakfast and
lunch. Feeling somewhat overdressed in my combats and T-shirt I followed suit
and once in my robe and matching slippers set out to explore the hotel's surroundings.
At the heart of the resort is the spa that boasts an endless list of traditional
and specialised treatments-we indulged ourselves with a massage, facial and
pedicure each. In between we made good use of the hotel's new swimming and gym
complex and even fitted in a game of tennis and croquet. There were a multitude
of exercise classes we could have attended, including yoga, that my husband
did daily.
Being a health farm, Champneys prides itself on its range of healthy
food options. Information on portion sizes and nutrition is available for each
course and the good news is that alcohol is allowed in the dining area. Having
spent two days apart from my kids I couldn't of chosen a better place for a
mini-break. The combination of therapies, exercise, good food, friendly staff
and luxurious surroundings has re-energised me for the forthcoming school summer
holidays. robe. and a variety of equipment at the well equiped gym. Also tennis
courts, bikes available and everything from gentle organised walks to power
runs. However, we all went there to relax! the perfect place to relax and unwind.
