Legoland Windsor

It is no wonder that Legoland Windsor is
one of the best family theme parks in Britain. For as well as its renowned lego
model village of different countries, there are plenty of other excellent attractions
for children of all ages. Although the entrance fee is steep there is so much
to do at Legoland that even on our day visit we didn’t manage to view
everything the park has to offer.
However, with plenty of walking to do between
rides, what we did mange to see was enough to satisfy our three and four year
old sons. Despite arriving an hour after opening, we did not have to queue to
get into Legoland. Once you have made your way past a number of different food
joints, a steep hill takes you down to the main selection of attractions. Rather
than walk, we chose to take the hill train that offers wonderful views of the
theme park. With its windows made out of transparent lego pieces our kids got
their first taste of the theme for the day.
On arrival at the park’s ‘Lego
City’ village, we found the ferris wheel proved ideal for little ones
and our boys were also thrilled by the carousel ride, where they chose to sit
next to characters built out of hundreds of lego pieces. After a short refreshment
break, we made our way into ‘Duplo Land’, having been recommended
the Fairy Tale Brook-a gentle boat trip that takes you round a small lake. Along
the way, the kids squealed in excitement as they were entertained by different
scenes from their favourite fairy tales that were built along the side of the
water. Another favourite was Legoland’s driving school that we came across
whilst exploring the park’s ‘traffic’ village. For it was
here that our kids dreams came true as they were allowed to steer themselves
in real small cars along a circuit track.
As well as numerous rides, Legoland
offers great entertainment with its variety of shows. We were extremely impressed
by the fast-paced water stunts we witnessed at ‘Lego City harbour’
and the children loved the performance of the Little Red Riding Hood puppet
show. The highlight of the day for all of us however was the ‘miniland’
village that features amazing model scenes from Europe and the USA. The miniature
buildings, complete with moving lego vehicles and people, is truly amazing.
Having walked up an appetite, our only complaint about Legoland-aside
from the entrance fee-is the food and dining facilities. Both proved very unsatisfactory
and my advice if you intend to visit is to take a picnic. Aside from that, be
prepared for an extremely fun day out for not only the kids but yourselves as
well.
