Hello Jane
You don't mention a budget, but it sounds like a Mark Warner beach holiday might be up your street - San Agostino might appeal but I suspect that southern Greece might be a bit warm for your liking in August.

A northern French resort such as PV's Port du Crouesty in Brittany might be more comfortable for you - I've been there with my own kids and the pool and beaches are good, there's lot of ancient culture to explore in the area, and there are plenty of activities where kids of all ages can socialise. The local fish restaurants are fantastic!

I'd advise early booking on the latter, however, as remember that August is the big holiday month for the French themselves.
