Depends on time of day and jet lag
I think it depends completely on where you are travelling to and from. South Africa, Mauritius and the Seychelles are long-haul without the jet lag, while America and Asia have the added complication of significant time differences. An overnight flight with no or little time difference is relatively easy with kids, compared to a short night-time return from the U.S. that leaves the whole family wishing they had never gone away (there are day time flights from the East Coast which can help)
Actually the real answer is that rail is better than flying!
Eurostar shows how much better it is to stay on the ground!
Yours staying in Europe

I had never considered that flying long haul maybe easier with little ones. I imagine that the jet lag might be a bit of a nightmare though if you're not careful. We always find that both kids usually go to sleep just before we land and we are then faced with the task of carrying two very sleepy and grumpy children through the airport - so may be the answer is to travel further afield.
I think I will tell my husband that the next holiday needs to be the Seychelles!
long haul sleepers
we flew back from tobago one time and our daughters slept all the way nonstop to gatwick icudgn a stopover - perfect
meanwhile we're heading to Bergerac with Ryanair and slightly dreading it - I think it's the same hassle whether you're flying for 1 hour or ten - certainly at airport / check in etc
I'm wit dea on this one
happy hols
Hmm...interesting topic. We
Hmm...interesting topic. We flew to Bali this Summer and I have never experienced jet lag like it. We've been to Mexico, Australia, Thailand etc... but the first night in Indonesia I was completely shattered. We had a nap in our room when we got there (big mistake) and I couldn't bring myself to even go to the bathroom I was so weak! I think like you said, direct flights are always better but we had three connecting flights as our international flight flew into Jakarta so all of us were absolutely knackered by the time we got back. We do travel long haul a lot but I do find staying in Europe is so much easier. Get on a flight, have a bit, cheeky nap and then you're there. Its even better if you fly in the morning, because you can be at your holiday accommodation by the afternoon sipping a beer on the balcony! Lovely!
