Howbeck farm in the Lake District is 300 acres of sheep and beef farming owned by John and Christine Stobart. Of course, being set at the site of England's largest national park creates ideal opportunities for walks through beautiful landscapes. Also farmhouse breakfasts can be made on demand for guests along with Christines home made cakes, jams, and ready meals. Or pop to Hesket Newmarket for a visit to their community owned brewery.

Travel Provider:
Feather Down Farm DaysWhat to Expect:
from £195 in low season to £415 for tents for a weekend break, on popular bank holiday weekends. Midweek breaks and week breaks range from £195/£345 in low season and £439/£679. Boxes of wood are now free, but other items are available from the honesty shop. Other items available for hire for your stay include, Kitchen Linen Package, Childs Playpen, High Chair for Child, Travel Cot, Towels package and Bicycle hire.
each tent has 1 double room, 1 bunk bed room and the famous canopy bed which would sleep 2 children or 1 adult. Feather Down is a fantastic proposition for a group of 5 families. Each tent has a flushing toilet, running water (cold only) and a small wood burning stove. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and various kitchen utensils (whisks, corkscrews, etc). There is a large cool chest that you keep cold with iced water bottles that you pick up in the farm shop. There are paraffin lamps with hooks all around the tent to hang them up as well as a hanging candelabra above a large kitchen table which seats 6.
on each farm there is: - An honesty shop selling provisions such as eggs, milk (fresh from the cow), bread, bacon sausages, etc as well as the essential boxes of wood and kindling. - A Feather Down hen house where fresh eggs can be collected daily by guests - A traditional wood fired oven lit once each week (or stay) for breads, pizzas, stews, roast chickens; anything you like really, so probably worth doing a bit of research beforehand. - The paddock a small collection of petting animals, for example, lop eared rabbits, chickens, sheep, and Shetland ponies etc - Bike rental a collection of bikes including child seats, but it’s advisable to book them before you leave. (plus remember this is a farm and it is probably not the same as cycling in Holland) Hot showers! Set away from the tents and usually near the farm house. Pets are welcome on, but should be kept under close control near livestock.
the tents are placed in a wood clearing by a stream. Perfect for seeing foxes, deer and the now rare Red Squirrel. The lovely village of Caldbeck is little over 2 miles away.
