Return to Devon family holidays and breaks

Aller Farm, Devon

This farm of approximately 350 acres, is mixed cropping with the majority being grass, maize and corn. A restored orchard has a fabulous range of mixed apple trees, and in the late summer a great place to play hide and seek! Alongside this the Parris family also has a pedigree herd of 150 Holstein Friesian dairy cows, free range laying hens (always a fresh egg for breakfast), turkeys and roaming ducks. Their year round breeding programme means that there are always calves on site to look after.

Accommodation

each tent has 1 double room, 1 bunk bed room and the famous canopy bed which would sleep 2 children or 1 adult. Feather Down is a fantastic proposition for a group of 5 families. Each tent has a flushing toilet, running water (cold only) and a small wood burning stove. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and various kitchen utensils (whisks, corkscrews, etc). There is a large cool chest that you keep cold with iced water bottles that you pick up in the farm shop. There are paraffin lamps with hooks all around the tent to hang them up as well as a hanging candelabra above a large kitchen table which seats 6.

Facilities

on each farm there is: - An honesty shop selling provisions such as eggs, milk (fresh from the cow), bread, bacon sausages, etc as well as the essential boxes of wood and kindling. - A Feather Down hen house where fresh eggs can be collected daily by guests - A traditional wood fired oven lit once each week (or stay) for breads, pizzas, stews, roast chickens; anything you like really, so probably worth doing a bit of research beforehand. - The paddock a small collection of petting animals, for example, lop eared rabbits, chickens, sheep, and Shetland ponies etc - Bike rental a collection of bikes including child seats, but it’s advisable to book them before you leave. (plus remember this is a farm and it is probably not the same as cycling in Holland) Hot showers! Set away from the tents and usually near the farm house. Pets are welcome on, but should be kept under close control near livestock.

Location

tents are sited in the fields at Aller Farm around patches of woodland overlooking the Devon meadows, and enjoy views over beautiful countryside. The fields & the patches of woodland also offer tons of outdoor space for 'childplay'. The farm itself is situated on the southern slopes of The Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Farm is 6 miles from the market towns of Honiton, Axminster & Chard and just 12 miles from the Jurassic Coast and the popular historic town of Lyme Regis. It is also within easy walking distance of the picturesque village of Stockland, with a traditional public house, 14th century church, plenty of village amenities, and two Iron Age Camps with extensive banks and ditches.
