Knaveswell Farm, Dorset

Knaveswell is a 156 acre dairy farm with a herd of around 80 Holstein Friesian cows, in the 'Isle of Purbeck'. There's an all year round breeding programme, meaning there will usually be gorgeous young calves on the farm. The farmers are husband and wife team Paul & Joanna Dyer, with a little help from daughters Issy, Caitlin and Georgie. Whilst Paul and Jo tend to the cows, the girls look after Star the pony, Ginger the Hampshire pig, KitKat and Tabby the cats and lots and lots of chickens!

Accommodation

each tent has 1 double room, 1 bunk bed room and the famous canopy bed which would sleep 2 children or 1 adult. Feather Down is a fantastic proposition for a group of 5 families. Each tent has a flushing toilet, running water (cold only) and a small wood burning stove. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and various kitchen utensils (whisks, corkscrews, etc). There is a large cool chest that you keep cold with iced water bottles that you pick up in the farm shop. There are paraffin lamps with hooks all around the tent to hang them up as well as a hanging candelabra above a large kitchen table which seats 6.

Facilities

on each farm there is: - An honesty shop selling provisions such as eggs, milk (fresh from the cow), bread, bacon sausages, etc as well as the essential boxes of wood and kindling. - A Feather Down hen house where fresh eggs can be collected daily by guests - A traditional wood fired oven lit once each week (or stay) for breads, pizzas, stews, roast chickens; anything you like really, so probably worth doing a bit of research beforehand. - The paddock a small collection of petting animals, for example, lop eared rabbits, chickens, sheep, and Shetland ponies etc - Bike rental a collection of bikes including child seats, but it’s advisable to book them before you leave. (plus remember this is a farm and it is probably not the same as cycling in Holland) Hot showers! Set away from the tents and usually near the farm house. Pets are welcome on, but should be kept under close control near livestock.

Location

tents are sited in woodland on a secluded field, and are perfectly placed to enjoy great views of 'Devon’ Countryside. Children will love playing in the ‘adventurous' but very safe surrounding woodland. Through the woodland on the site runs a gentle stream, an ideal place to play a 'water works' game with the children or to cool down in summer. The farm itself is situated between the beautiful village of Corfe Castle and the Victorian seaside resort of Swanage, in an area known as the Isle of Purbeck.
