See reviews of Forte Village Resort (1).
Great for all ages, with a ‘Kids’ City’, teens’ complex and sports academies (some by well-known personalities), the luxury beachfront resort of Forte Village in southern Sardinia has been voted World’s Leading Resort by the World Travel Awards every year since 1998. Popular with footballers and other celebs, Forte Village comprises eight hotels, suites and villas, and 20+ bars and restaurants (one by Gordon Ramsay), so isn’t for those seeking intimate family holidays and breaks. Accommodation is a little dated, and extra costs steep on top of an already expensive holiday, but most families are satisfied with the service.

Of the 8 hotels, 44 suites and 2 villas, the recommended options for families are Il Villagio, Le Palme, Il Borgo and Royal Pineta hotels.
Il Villagio consists of 164 terrace bungalows (including Family Bungalows with a sofa-bed in the living room, and Family Bungalows Plus with two bedrooms) in the centre of the resort, each with a patio. Interconnecting bungalows means an older kid or kids can enjoy the privacy of a single or twin bedroom.
Le Palme offers 140 bungalows in a pine-forested area, with private garden areas, close to pools, a play area and a child-friendly restaurant. As with Il Villagio, Family, Family Plus and interconnecting bungalows are available.
Il Borgo has 56 spacious bungalows (including some Family options with a sofabed) at the secluded highest part of resort, with views of the Mediterranean, yet close to Children’s City and the Baia delle Palme pool. Each has a patio or bungalow (some can be shared with adjoining bungalows – ideal for large families).
Royal Pineta, set in a peaceful oasis of pine trees, close to the sea and spa, has double and triple rooms with a terrace or balcony. Some interconnect, and cots can be provided in all.
Kids’ City (Città dei Bambini) with outdoor pools, activities including clay modelling, pizza making and creative writing, and kids’ shows. Entry is free but all childcare within the City costs extra.
Chelsea Football Club Soccer School for ages 4–14, Rugby Academy for ages 5–16, and children’s Tennis Academy; extra cost.
Leisureland for teens+, with go-karting, bowling alley, climbing wall, trampoline, Technodrome with games machines, and nightclub; extra cost.
Village shops with baby products (nappies, formula, etc).
Buggy hire.
21 restaurants and bars (including fine-dining options and a kids’ restaurant).
Private sandy beach with watersports facilities including hire of catamarans, kayaks, dinghies, pedaloes, windsurf-boards, rubber dinghies and kids’ inflatables, and scuba-diving tuition.
9 swimming pools, including Baia delle Palme with 250m of slides and Oasis in the centre of the village, shallow enough for smaller children (there are also 2 kids’ pools in Kids’ City).
Spa/thalassotherapy centre.
12 tennis courts (all flood-lit); racket-hire.
27-hole golf course with golfing academy.
Bike hire.
Live shows on open-air stage.
Forte Village is about 40km (50 minutes’ transfer time) from Sardinia’s main airport Cagliari (past swampland and unattractive petrochemical refineries) and about 5km from the closest town Pula.

You can't go wrong with Forte Village in Sardinia. Such a great choice for an easy and indulgent holiday. Sardinia is only 2 hours flight, the transfer from Cagliari is 40 mins, and once at the Forte Village all your worries are washed away. Food is excellent, great choice of restaurants, beach is superb (very like the Caribbean) wide choice of rooms (although you won't spend much time in the rooms) and incredible facilities for children - 3 huge pools, one with water slides - world renowed childrens club, football and rugby coaching where they are coached by true stars, and to top it all off one of the best spas I've been to. They even have bikes you can hire with a baby seat, and also ones with stabilisers for the toddlers- they've thought of everything. Book with Sardatur as they have the best rates and give the best service, plus a discount with TTF.
