Hollings Hill Farm , Hereford

Hollings Hill Farm is a working dairy farm of about 300 acres, set at the foot of the Malvern Hills. Farmers Austin and Faye, and their own brood, keep 250 dairy cows and 100 calves, mainly British Friesians, and run a year round breeding programme, so there are always several new born calves on the farm. They also grow maize, potatoes, wheat and have an apple orchard. Around the farm there are walnut trees (producing the biggest walnuts you’ve ever seen!) and pear trees. It’s also a fantastic site for mushrooms in autumn. Breakfast anyone?

The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and various kitchen utensils (whisks, corkscrews, etc). There is a large cool chest that you keep cold with iced water bottles that you pick up in the farm shop. There are paraffin lamps with hooks all around the tent to hang them up as well as a hanging candelabra above a large kitchen table which seats 6.

Facilities

on each farm there is: - An honesty shop selling provisions such as eggs, milk (fresh from the cow), bread, bacon sausages, etc as well as the essential boxes of wood and kindling. A Feather Down hen house where fresh eggs can be collected daily by guests. A traditional wood fired oven lit once each week (or stay) for breads, pizzas, stews, roast chickens; anything you like really, so probably worth doing a bit of research beforehand. The paddock a small collection of petting animals, for example, lop eared rabbits, chickens, sheep, and Shetland ponies etc. Bike rental a collection of bikes including child seats, but it’s advisable to book them before you leave. Hot showers! Set away from the tents and usually near the farm house. Pets are welcome, but should be kept under close control near livestock. Your horse or pony is also welcome. There is a good accommodation to stable them available for £12 per night. Please indicate this request on reservation.

Location

tents are beautifully sited near the old farm orchard, with unlimited views over rolling countryside and the Malvern Hills. Perfectly placed to enjoy a locally produced ‘scrumpy’ cider and perry. The farm itself is situated in Cradley is part of the Duchy Estate, at the foot of the Malverns, east of Hereford, west of Malvern and north of the historic town of Ledbury.
