Location
The "Port Olona" yachting marina: the start and finish for the round the world non-stop "Vendée Globe" race as from 1989, and the fishing port (eighth largest in France). Two districts must be seen: Ile de Penotte, a picturesque old quarter in the town centre with pedestrian alleys and façades decorated with shells by a local artist. Also, the Chaume quarter, where the city originated, is the fishermen’s district. Worth seeing: the Place Sainte Anne, a magnificent trompe-l’œil fresco. There are many monuments worth visiting, such as the "Halles Centrales", which now house the food market, Notre-Dame de Bon Port Church, and Saint Nicolas’ Priory, today a venue for meetings and cultural events. A number of museums: "Musée de l’Abbaye de Sainte Croix" (collection of modern and contemporary French art), "Musée de la Mer" and the "Musée du Coquillage": unique of its kind in Europe, with its 35,000 tropical shells, corals and shellfish. The "Jardin des Salines": from this protected site retracing the history of salt over the ages, you can watch wading birds nesting in the marshes.
