A newcomer to the Algarve’s luxury family-friendly hotel scene, the Martinhal Beach Hotel & Resort is highly rated for its kids’ clubs, with customers divided as to the overall vibe – some find it stylish, others think it a little soulless. Many parents also have issues with the strong winds in-resort, though this can take the edge off the heat and make for exciting surfing and other watersports. Service at the Martinhal Beach Hotel & Resort can be erratic, but the well-kitted-out houses and villas with high-spec kitchens are a boon for family holidays and breaks.

Accommodation

38 rooms in hotel, 132 houses (1-3 bedroom) in ‘village’ and 68 villas. Cots and bedrails are available, as are complimentary baby packs with nappies, toiletries, baby milk and baby food.

Hotel (all rooms have seaview)
Terrace Rooms with private terrace and lawn area, and Beach Rooms in clusters of 4 a short walk from the main building, with private balconies or terraces, sleep a couple plus an infant in a cot. Beach Rooms can interconnect with 1 of 2 duplex Beach Suites, also sleeping up to 2 (double or twin beds) plus an infant in a cot.

‘Village’
Ocean Houses, resort-front seaview properties in small terraced groups, have private verandas and 2 bedrooms (Grand Deluxe) or 3 bedrooms (Master Deluxe).
Bay Houses, the largest and quietest houses, with views over the nature reserve and the sea, have 2 bedrooms (Grand Deluxe) or 3 bedrooms (Master Deluxe).
Garden Houses, arranged around a large garden, with inland views and a large children’s pool (The Oasis), have 1 bedroom (Deluxe), 2 bedrooms (Grand Deluxe) or 3 bedrooms (Master Deluxe).
Pinewoods, a separate ‘close’ of 10 houses, with easy access to the main resort facilities, each with its own small, swimming pool, plus 2 bedrooms (Grand Deluxe) or 3 bedrooms (Master Deluxe).

Villas (independently own but offering access to all resort facilities).
Luxury Villas have 2 or 3 bedrooms, seaviews, large private gardens and private pools.
Vilas Mimosa have 2 or 3 bedrooms, seaviews, private gardens, and access to a Clubhouse with a swimming pool and baby pool.

The Blue Room unsupervised leisure facility in ‘village square’, open to all ages but best for kids 8+, with board games, video games, table football, etc.

Tennis and sports club with 2 artificial-grass tennis courts and 2 glass-sided PADEL courts, plus windsurfing, kayaking and skimming equipment hire.

Location

In a national park on the Sagres peninsula 75 minutes by road from Faro International airport. Car-hire recommended.
