Luxury Family Hotels

The Ickworth hotel is arguably the gem in the Luxury Family Hotels’ crown. Surrounded by some 1,800 acres of glorious English National Trust parkland, it just oozes splendour. Designed by an 18th century Italian, Ickworth was the dream of the much traveled Earl Bishop of Bristol. Today the East Wing offers a warm and welcoming place for families to enjoy.

The Ofsted registered Four Bears’ Den is a safe haven for babies and young children. The facility is normally open from 7.00am until late. Although the nannies supervise from 10.00am until 4.45pm, it is unsupervised play during mealtimes. The Den is a well-stocked room of toys and activities. Children are encouraged to spend time playing and they have purposefully not over-structured children's time in the Den, although they do organise set activities during school holidays and on request. Older children gravitate to Club Blu, complete with table football, table tennis and... computer games. Baby Sitting and listening services ensure parents get some deserved time out.

A family weekend at Ickworth

Review from a Takethefamily parent: As one of the Luxury Family Hotel chain, this hotel doesn’t come cheap, but it did live up to expectations. After a long drive from the Midlands on the first Friday night of half term, we arrived at Ickworth Hotel. As part of a National Trust property this hotel has vast grounds and an impressive frontage, even in the dark. We were met on arrival by the very friendly porter, who seemed more as if he were welcoming us to a friends (large) country house, rather than a hotel. After gaining our key to our 2 bedroom apartment we went to settle in. The Dower House apartments are within the building once lived in by the Hervey family and are either a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the main hotel facilities. We didn’t find this a problem as we were more than compensated by a huge apartment complete with antique furniture and chandeliers. The apartments also benefit from the additional independence of a small, discrete kitchenette – though we didn’t use this for much more than make a cup of coffee as we ordered take away from the excellent child and adult friendly conservatory menu or ate in the hotel. We had 2 nights in our apartment at Ickworth and felt no need to venture from the hotel and grounds the entire weekend. My youngest son (7) dipped into the child care facilities to decorate biscuits for half an hour, we all tried the table football, pool and table tennis and of course the lovely swimming pool. Probably the only criticism is of the pool changing area – with only 2 changing rooms and 1 shower things were fine if it was just your family (it was once!) though not so good if you were sharing with a couple of other families! My youngest also had a private swimming lesson on the Sunday morning with the best swimming teacher ever and just him in the pool! Grounds were beautiful – we went for dinner on the Saturday night by car to the hotel to the ‘adult only’ restaurant and on the way went past 2 groups of deer. We also enjoyed numerous walks, as did our cocker spaniel. Not only was it a child friendly hotel, but also very dog friendly. Definitely a hotel we would like to go back to when we’ve saved up!
