What's Center Parcs really like?
Utterly awful. We booked 4 days at Longleat, only to come home early as we couldn't stand to stay any longer. Depressing. It is like going on holiday to a housing estate. The centre-piece, the 'sub-tropical paradise' was filthy, tepid and generally unexciting; you'd find more interesting swimming baths on your doorstep. As for the whole bike hire thing, the place is only a mile of so wide, so you can walk end-to-end in 1/2 hour. A cycle trip feels more akin to traipsing around a camping site than getting 'away from it all'. There are only a couple of short paths where you genuinely don't see any 'villas', or 'sheds' which is a more appropriate description. It was like some awful rewind to British holidays of the 1970s. It reminded me of times when our continental cousins had reason to berate our lack of taste or culinary capabilities. We most certainly will never be going back. For the money, you are better off tracking down some interesting B&Bs somewhere less artificial. Hope this answers some questions? The only good part is leaving? You exit into much more pleasant countryside and wonder why on earth you caged yourself up inside a pine forest!
