Thanks Colette - other thoughts include taking a day time flight home to make jet lag less of an issue. The Natural History museum is superb. Central Park is indeed terrific with young kids...and also for older kids - rent bikes or skates and head round the 6 mile traffic-lite road within the park boundary. And, finally, consider a suite or aparthotel so that you have a bit of freedom in the evenings.
