Depending on how far you are willing to travel, here are some ideas across the UK for a fun filled family august bank holiday weekend for 2007:

West End Shopping - As part of Kids' Week Over the weekend of 25 - 26 August, the West End's world-renowned shops will be joining in the fun and entertaining their younger customers, so head to the heart of London to take advantage of some of the best kid-friendly flagship shops in the country. Make sure you drop in at Hamleys, John Lewis, Selfridges & Co, The Disney Store, Habitat, House of Fraser, Boots and Niketown.

The Notting Hill Carnival - Join over half a million people taking to the streets of Notting Hill. The 26th is traditionally Kids' Day, so get your dancing shoes on and try some delicious jerk chicken.

HMS Belfast - For somewhat messy, but nautical fun head to HMS Belfast where you can all take part in one of the oldest rituals in the maritime world - 'Crossing The Line' - marking a sailor's first crossing of the equator. It, of course, involves getting wet, (so take spare dry clothes!) and being gunged, (more clothes), an absolute delight for most kids!

The Festival of the Tree - Bristol celebrates one of the biggest events of the year at Westonbirt Arboretum - featuring family activities, children's trails and traders.

The Edinburgh Fringe's last weekend. Breaking its own record every year as the largest arts festival on the planet.

Cafe Paradiso - The Seattle Hotel at Brighton Marina hold exciting monthly events for children aged up to 12 years old to explore the world of Food . The Club starts from 12.30pm on the last Sunday of each month, (for the bank holiday Mon 27 Aug), and focuses on kids learning about food and getting involved in preparing some simple dishes under the expert guidance of Chef. August Bank Holiday Monday sees a special additional Club P where children will get to make and decorate their own fairy cakes. This is an extra special Club P as there will be entertainment from a special guest, a balloon making clown!
