Is it right to name your child after a geographical location?

There certainly is a huge diversity of kids names out there these days! & I'm sure many would make for an unusual and memorable family holiday. I can remember as a kid being desperate to find a pencil case/name plate or sticker for bedroom/mug with my name on it, but was usually disappointed.
I can envisage suitcases packed with souvenirs. Beyond a day/weekend trip I think I would need some serious thought; Would we all enjoy it? What if it was awful? I much prefer geographical names to faddy media driven names such as Chardonnay, Bart or Buffy. |

I'm not sure what's worse: naming your child India (for example) when you've never been there, or after conceiving the kid there?!
But surely worse than place names is calling your children foreign names when they're 100% english? |

My daughter is called Tallulah and was conceived on our honeymoon to Hawaii and whilst it isn't the name of any of the places we visited it would have been if I could have found one I liked! I really couldn't have called her Maui, Makena, Wailea or Lahaina, but I felt Tallulah had a vague connection as it sounded similar to Hula! I really feel no obligation whatsoever to take my Tallulah to Tallulah, Louisana, however, I would love to take her back to Maui.
