Can anyone recommend a good travel cot?

If you're looking for something small and incredibly light weight, then I can recommend the Nomad Travel Cot/ Tent. In terms of ease and weight it definitely beats the standard travel cot. It has an opening on the side and one on the top, when our daughter was younger we would lift her in and out of the top, now she's older (2 1/2yrs)we leave the side door open so she can get in and out herself. I've also used it in the garden, the only disadvantage being is that it has a mesh top and sides, so to use as a sun shade you have to cover it - although it is UV protective material.
