I need suggestions for me and my 11 yr old daugher for a break at the end of August or October half term, somewhere in the med. Has anyone got any advice for a single parent on holiday? It will be our first trip without my partner.

Hi I have been to Alikes, Zante twice as a single parent with my son. The first time he was 6 and the 2nd he was 10. Fab place, typically small greek place, only families and couples so perfect. Very friendly place and the beach is lovely, sea is shallow for a long way out os is very safe.

Cheers Millsy. I hadnt thought of Zante (Zakynthos), but it seems lke a great idea, and a great family-type quietish destination. I had always thought of the Greek island as bustling tourist traps, forgetting that they are not all like that. It seems perfect for some girlie mother and daughter time without the stresses of day to day life. My daughter is keen to go, so we will book for October. Also you could try Pefkos in Rhodes. Very safe, friendly resort with excellent beach and pool bars, and varied restaurants/bars. Lots of apartments on offer in the Direct Greece brochure and single parent discount too!
