We spent a week in Maurach near the Achensee last summer.

Super place with steam rack railway, lake ferry and cable cars to ride on, swimming in the lake, visit to the setting of the Chalet School books in Pertisau.

Anyone staying gets free bus passes for the week and that then allows you to buy a weekly season ticket on the train, boat and chair lifts. So we commuted by rack railway!

We stayed at Gästehaus Baumann Maurach am Achensee Privatzimmer/Private Ferienwohnung Tiscover Willkommen Appa which is three flats in a restored chalet. Absolutely spotless.

Travelled by Eurostar, sleeper to Munich and then InterCity train to Jenbach with a free bus ride up the hill on proof of booking!
