Oh my gosh please help, I have a lovely baby daughter who has not yet met her grandparents and great grandma in Australia. My husband really wants us to go this February as his grandma is 92 and she is not very well, he is worried that she may never get to see her if we don't go soon.
I don't know what to do, I would love to go but I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to travel with a tiny baby, she would be 6 months and will also have just started solids. I would dearly love to hear from anybody that has done this trip. How do the babies cope with the jet lag there and back and do they get totally messed up and out of routine? What about feeding how do you take their food if they are just starting fruit and vege etc. Is one airline particularly better than another? Also I am worried about germs, can the baby contract things through the planes airconditioning etc etc. Please please I would dearly love to hear from anybody that has done this journey and how they coped etc I need to make a decision asap and I just don't know what to do. Thank so much |

Just go for it. I've done the trip to Australasia several times with my children at varying ages and actually 6 months is a good age. Go with Singapore or Virgin. If you can possibly afford it, go premium economy for a bit of extra space. Don't worry about 'germs' They won't pick up anything they won't get at home. Food wise, take some jars of puree. The crew are very good at heating bottles if you are not still BF. Its a tiring trip but but easier when they're at the age of not wriggling to get down or crawling over the seats. Also at six months you'll still be able to use the sky cots. Have a great time!

Hi flowers
There is also a thread all about flying to Australia with infants, which sings the praises of Singapore Airlines, amongst other things, and may offer you some reassurance, and is well worth a read. See forum thread: Long Journey down under Other areas of the forum which may be of interets include skycots/bassinet details, in particular Britax bassinets which are considered a superior product. See forum thread: Flying to Barbados In Take the Family's Travel Tips section, take a look at tips for: Long Haul with kids: http://www.takethefamily.com/prepare...l_holidays.php Our 10 top tips for flying with kids: http://www.takethefamily.com/prepare...here.php#plane We hope this provides some useful information for your trip. It is often easier to travel with young infants of around 6 months, as once the crawling begins, it can be a bit trickier. We hope you have a happy and successful family trip to Oz,. We would love to hear about your trip on your return, either by posting here or by contacting us directly. http://www.takethefamily.com/contactus.php |

Yes, go for it without a doubt. We go almost every year for similar reasons and young kids cope much better than most adults! Just forget the UK time and put your clock to OZ time and try to get into your normal routine as soon as you arrive. Of course the flight drags but it's worth it.
