Default Safe family trip to South Africa

We're considering a family fly-drive holiday to the Garden Route next Easter but I'm concerned about our safety. Does anyone know how safe otherwise this part of South Africa is ? Any specific tips for staying safe in this country ? Thanks.

Default Just be vigilant

Honestly nothing to worry about - as with any travel a little common sense is all that is required. Cape Town is a city so treat it as such, for the rest Port Elisabeth included, petty theft is the only issue - leave the diamonds at home and don't flash fancy electronics around! Don't leave stuff in your car and when in the city, drive with doors locked and windows up (make sure you have air con) and try to avoid late night driving.

You'll have a great holiday and Easter should deliver fabulous weather. Was in CT and various other cities in March/April '08 and loved it!
