Has anyone stayed at the Tregenna castle resort. We are looking at booking one of their self catering flats and I would like opinions on the standard of accomodation, pools etc.
I have read reviews on Tripadvisor for the hotel and they are not good. Can anuone advise on self catering apts. Thanks very much |

Can't comment on Tregenna but we recently booked a wonderful cottage through Cornish Gems. I believe they do a range of holiday cottages and apartments and the site shows if the property is child friendly. We stayed in Bay Tree Cottage (put it into the search box) which was really well furnished inside and out. The prices are a little lower than some of the properties in St Ives itself but the location is ideal only minutes from the park and ride and with the beautiful Kidney beach a little walk from the house. Our little girl had a great time and we will are already looking to book for next summer

We stayed at Tregenna Castle July 2008 for one night in a family room. It was quite nice. The facilities are great. Indoor pool, outdoor pool, tennis courts, gym. The location is stunning, overlooking St Ives harbour and the sea. Gorgeous. We are returning for a week at the New Year, staying in a self-catering cottage.
We stayed there by chance when Cornish Gems (referenced by another user/reply here) put us there when there was a problem with a cottage we booked thru them. We had a VERY bad experience with Cornish Gems and would not recommend them to anyone. The house we booked was a disaster, literally. We ended up in a nice cottage 2 days later in Lelant Saltings which was near the train station. But our holiday was greatly disrupted and there was no compensation for our trouble. No real apology either. Anyway, St Ives and the area were great and we are returning to Tregenna Castle which we expect to be a good experience. Good luck. |

We had a great self catering break this Summer with Carbis Bay Holidays who let four and five star properties in Carbis Bay and St Ives. The apartment had great views and everything was clean and modern. They provided a free travel cot and high chair for us which really saved on our boot space as it was full of my husband's golf clubs!
My husband went to Tregenna Castle for the golf but although in a nice spot, he said he was pleased we had chosen to stay at Carbis Beach Apartments as it was so much closer to the beach for our little ones and really easy to get into St Ives on the train. |
