You'll begin your adventure in exciting Beijing before flying to Chengdu to visit the panda sanctuary - both adults and children will be enthralled by these huge cuddly bears. The Eco resort at Moon Canyon is the perfect place for relaxing in the stunning Three Beaches National Park where there is swimming, hikes and an opportunity for a jeep safari to a spectacular monastery high in the mountains. You'll travel by train to Xi'an and visit the famous terracotta army as well as explore this ancient city. Returning by train to Beijing we will visit the Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven. There is also free time for your own sightseeing or shopping.


When
in 2007 this family adventure trip is available during July and August. If you're planning further ahead then we can already offer dates in July 2008.
Stay
a combination of hotel stays and eco lodges (with swimming pool) and an exciting adventure on overnight sleeper trains to Baoji and Beijing. You'll be accommodated in soft class - four berth compartment (2 x 2 bunks) with pillow and blanket. Toilets are usually western style but toilet paper is not supplied on trains.
Price
£595 per person plus a local payment of US$200 per person to be paid in cash to the Tour Leader on Day 1. Includes arrival transfer from airport to hotel meeting point, accommodation, train journeys, flight from Beijing to Chengdu, 9 breakfasts, 2 lunches and one evening meal. (Flights from the UK not included.)
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival day.
Day 2
Fly to Chengdu. Free time to explore this city, provincial capital of Sichuan. In the evening we visit the Sichuan Opera, a highly entertaining variety performance.
Day 3
Chengdu to Baoji. A morning excursion to the Panda Sanctuary where you will be able to see some of these adorable animals. Later we transfer to the station for the overnight train to the Moon Canyon Eco Resort.
Day 4
Moon Canyon, Baoji. We arrive early in Baoji and transfer by bus to Moon Canyon. We enjoy a barbeque in the evening.
Day 5
A full free day to rest and relax at Moon Canyon. Moon Canyon is a cluster of eco lodges set in the stunning Three Beaches National Park. Designed to minimise their environmental impact, the lodges blend in with the surroundings and overlook a small creek. There are seven huts, a restaurant serving traditional Sichuan food, a small shop and a swimming pool. Opportunities for hikes and swimming.
Day 6
Moon Canyon. Another full free day. If you wish to go further a field may take a jeep safari up to a spectacular monastery high in the mountains, or you may want to have a go at rafting.
Day 7
Baoji toXi’an. Today we leave Moon Canyon and travel by train to the ancient capital of Xi’an, best-known for the Terracotta Warriors commissioned by Emperor Qin Shi Huang around 2,200 years ago.
Day 8
A full free day to explore Xi’an. Visit Buddhist and Daoist temples, the Muslim Quarter with its fantastic wooden mosque or cycle around the ancient city walls.
Day 9
Xi’an to Beijing. A morning excursion to the Terracotta Warriors followed by a visit to the nearby First Emperor's Tomb. We return to the city to catch the overnight train to Beijing.
Day 10
Beijing. Morning arrival. Visit the Temple of Heaven before some free time. The Hongqiao markets are nearby so you may want to do some shopping for souvenirs.
Day 11
A full day excursion to a lesser visited section of the Great Wall with the option to hike 3-5 hours along the wall and enjoy a picnic lunch on the way. Perhaps China’s most famous and beautiful site.
Day 12
Beijing. Tour ends after breakfast.
