Why not head for the beach, broad sands and breaking rollers on the Pacific coast provides great conditions for surfers and water sports enthusiasts (bear in mind it can rain in July and August).

Your family will stay 9-nights in comfortable tourist class hotels and lodges.

Price

From £1,486 per person, for 10 days, based on a family of 2 adults and 2 children sharing a room. Includes local flights, some meals and excursions. Excludes international flights. Suitable for children aged 6 and over.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival San José.
Day 2
Explore San José, the capital of Costa Rica.
Day 3
Travel to the Pacific coast. A river boat will then cruise along at a leisurely speed allowing you to spot wildlife as you travel through Tortuguero National Park on a combination of fresh and salt water canals. Stay at the Tortuguero Jungle Lodge.
Day 4
Explore the canals of Tortuguero National Park by boat with your Local Guide to observe wildlife and flora. Optional activities such caiman spotting and turtle walks.
Day 5
Travel to Corcovado. Hike around the Corcovado reserve. Here the visitor will have the best chance in Costa Rica to actually see the large mammals - jaguar, tapir, ocelot and peccaries.
Day 6
Guided trip to treetop tail in the rainforest canopy where more than half of the jungle wildlife is found. From this vantage point you have the opportunity to view and enjoy the life in a primary rainforest canopy. Optional activities such as horse riding are available.
Days 7 & 8
A five hour drive to Monteverde reserve where there are over 2000 plant varieties native to the area, including many wild orchids and epiphytes. Among the 320 bird species in this region alone the resplendent quetzal with its emerald green throat and scarlet red breast is definitely king of the canopy. Jaguars are less easy to spot than howler monkeys or sloths but you may be lucky. Enjoy two nights at Monteverde Lodge, designed with huge glass windows to allow maximum viewing capability.
Day 9
Return to San José.
Day 10
UK clients depart, arriving in the UK, day 11.
