There are a lot of very good reasons to travel to Kiruna. It’s from here that you will find some of the best snowmobiling trails in Lapland, dog sled tracks running amidst the fells and easy access to the highest mountains in Sweden. However, the most compelling attraction is the the world famous ICEHOTEL® in neighbouring Jukkasjarvi. Stay
HOTEL SCANDIC FERRUM. This modern and very comfortable hotel in the centre of Kiruna offers high quality, newly renovated rooms and a good range of food, locally sourced where possible. The hotel has a large sauna area available to all guests free of charge - the perfect way to relax. All rooms are en-suite, have cable television and are comfortably furnished. Even in temperatures as low as -5°C the skins combined with your expedition grade sleeping bag ensure a comfortable night’s sleep.
Price
£1295 per adult, £845 per child (under 12), based on two adults sharing. Optional night at ICEHOTEL® £125 per adult and £65 per child. Price includes, return scheduled flights from Heathrow to Kiruna, return airport transfers, 4 nights hotel, full board, Sami Tour and Reindeer, Aurora Husky Safari, Moose Safari and Snowshoe Trek, Snowmobile Safari, ICEHOTEL®, all equipment including thermo-overalls, socks, mittens, boots and warm hat, and fully qualified guides and instructors.
Itinerary
Day One – Flights, Arrival and Introduction
You will be greeted at Kiruna Airport and transferred
the short distance to your accommodation. A welcome
drink and short meeting with your guide to discuss the
days ahead are followed by dinner.
Day Two - Sami, Reindeer, Aurora & Dog Sleds
Today provides the perfect introduction to Lapland.
You will visit the home of Nils Anders Kuhmunen one
of the most respected Sami reindeer men in Kiruna.
You will meet the reindeer, have the opportunity to feed
them and take a short reindeer-pulled sleigh ride. You will
learn about the Sami people, the lives of the herders and
the importance of the reindeer to this area. A simple lunch
will be served in Nils Anders’ traditional wooden Lavvo.
Approximately 3 hours.
Tonight you will be taken to meet your dog teams before
heading out into the darkened landscape. The dog’s
excitement is truly infectious as you settle onto the sled.
The silence of the forest seems even more pronounced in
the darkness and makes the experience all the more
memorable and exhilarating. You will spend the evening
searching for the spectacular Northern Lights and have
dinner cooked around an open fire – fantastic!
Approximately 4 hours.
Day Three – Wilderness Moose Safari
You will be driven to the amazingly remote hamlet of
Nikkaluokta around 1hr from Kiruna. You will travel in a
snowmobile-pulled sled through the forests before
continuing on foot using snowshoes to track the wildlife
and hopefully view the huge moose. Lunch will be served
in a wooden hut surrounded by some of the highest
mountains in Sweden. Approximately 5 hours.
Day Four - Snowmobiles and The Icehotel®
There is no better way to travel through the stunning
winter landscape than on a snowmobile. The exhilaration
as you drive through the forests and across frozen lakes
is amazing. Approximately 3.5 hours.
You will then head for lunch in the warm restaurant at the
world famous ICEHOTEL® before joining your guided tour.
The ICEHOTEL® is an incredible sight. Whether you admire
it for its beauty, art, engineering or scale, it is spectacular.
Made solely from Torne River ice the hotel comprises of a
reception, ABSOLUT ICEBAR®, individually designed and
sculpted suites and more simple ice rooms. You will have
plenty of time to explore and admire before heading back
to Kiruna. Approximately 3 hours.
We can arrange overnight stays subject to availability.
Day Five – Departures, Transfers and Flights
Return to the UK.
