Courchevel family holidays and breaks
Occupying one of the famous interlinked Three Valleys (the other resorts in this area are Meribel, Val Thorens and Les Menuires), Courchevel is actually four different resorts named by altitude: 1850, 1650, 1550, 1300 (La Praz). The last, the most attractive, is connected to 1850 and above by gondola. Family holidays here allow for skiing on more than 600km of piste accessed by almost 200 lifts.

What to Do
Ski on a choice of 275 pistes. Beginners generally learn at Courchevel 1850 with its extensive nursery slopes.
Intermediates and advanced skiers cannot fail to enjoy themselves thoroughly – if the groomed pistes don't excite, book a guided off-piste tour. Snowboarders and cross-country skiers are well catered for too.
Take advantage of other activity options, including ice-skating, dog-sledding, snowmobile rides, toboggan runs, swimming and squash.

When
The ski season in Courchevel runs from mid-December to mid-April – because of its altitude, the Three Valleys ski region offers good snow cover into spring.
If you have younger kids, consider scheduling family holidays in January (cheaper, but cold) or March (more expensive, less cold). February half term is busy and expensive – avoid if you can.
How
There are frequent flights a day from UK airports to Geneva in Switzerland, from which it's about a 2hr 30min drive to Courchevel. Alternatively, fly to Chambéry, also in the Savoie, and transfer in 1hr 30mins.
For trains to the French Alps, including Chambéry, see Man in Seat 61.

Eat
If you're staying in a chalet or hotel, dinner will be included, but during the day you can sample fare at more than 45 restaurants serving local mountain cuisine and/or international favourites.
Cost
Costs for family holidays in Courchevel vary significantly by date, with school holidays and, in particular, February half-term putting more pressure on your budget. In February half-term, adults shouldn't much change from £1,000, with ski passes and equipment on top; at other times, prices can be half that.
