Family Experience

 

  • *Brilliant Kids Activities and Classes, a variety of acvities and classes for toddlers and children, such as Movement and Music, Junk modelling, Junior or Toddler Picasso, Street dance for all ages, Popcorn Club (U movies and as much popcorn as you can eat), at Brilliant Kids Café & Arts Centre, Kensal Green.   • *The Eureka! (Museum for Children):
    * - Explore the Stardome: From Saturday 7 March to Saturday 14 March. Free with admission to Eureka. The Star Dome is a chance to take a magical tour of the galaxy without ever leaving Eureka!. On your trip you’ll meet The Great Bear and Orion the Hunter and hear stories of heroes and villains from mythology. Plus, their resident astronomer Dr Martin Lunn MBE, Curator of Astronomy at the Yorkshire Museum will be at Eureka! to answer all your questions. (Not suitable for under 6 years.)
  • *Eden Project
    * - Stunning Spring Gardens:
    March & April. Eden is stunning at any time of the year and in Spring it's blooming gorgeous, offering everything to the Spring garden visitor, especially the Biomes for over 1 million types of plants and flowers. Besides the horticultural highlights there are many wonderful themed exhibits in our gardens
  • *DISCOLOCO: 1st Sunday of every month at Chats Palace, Hackney. Embarrassing dads now have an excuse to go crazy on the dance floor. Disco Loco invites all parents and children to boogie on down together. Dance to funk, soul and rock 'n roll for hours and still get an early night! Suitable for cool parents and kids not quite old enough to think otherwise...
  • *Visit one of London's City Farms, community-managed farm projects across the capital. If you're wondering where can you find alpacas, llamas and chickens, join a gardening club and learn to ride, then look no futher, and support your local community.
  • *Go to Fame School - & discover your inner X-factor with this day at Sylvia Young's fame academy.
  • *Hadrian's Wall 2009:
    -*The Living Frontier
    : 28 to 31 May. Join the biggest re-garrisoning project since Roman times ! With 4 days of events including battle re-enactments and exhibitions, Hadrian’s Wall Country will celebrate the influence that waves of invaders, visitors and locals throughout history have had on the Wall and it’s unique landscape, culminating in a spectacular finale at Corbridge on 30th May.
    -* Organise a family Patrol
    , along a section of Northumberland's Hadrian's Wall, with a visit to Housesteads Castle.

  • *Roald Dahl Museum:
    * - World Book Day
    , Thursday 5 March. Suitable for all ages: Celebrate this special day with a storytelling session and craft activities. You may also redeem your World Book Day vouchers in our shop. FREE entry after 3.30pm. (Read Dea Birkett's feature A Fantastically Foul Feast with Roald .)
  • *The Victoria and Albert Museum:
    * - Fancy Fashion: Drop In Design: Saturday 22 March, 10.30-17.00, Sackler Centre Lunchroom. Camilla Prue and Johnnie Bert Tinklebottom are having a fancy dress party. Choose your favourite outfit from the V&A collection and design a fancy accessory to complete your costume.
    Free Art Fun Festival: Opening night. Sunday 5 April, Sunday 5 April, 10.30-17.00, Sackler Centre. Draw back the curtains, turn up the lights and bring the backstage, onstage.  Celebrate the opening of the Theatre & Performance galleries with this special day of activities at the V&A.  Design a wild headdress, take a peek at artists transforming ideas into performance, share memories of great shows and create digital designs for a classic record cover.
  • *The Kids' Cookery School, School Holiday Classes - for ages 5 to 11 yrs. Feb Half Term Classes on Feb 16th, 19th, & 20th.Sessons 1 1/4-21/2 hours, for ages 3-4 yrs, 5-7yrs & 8-11yrs. £15-£30. Must pre-book - limited spaces.

 

Family Go See and Hear

 

  • *Dan Zanes and friends GIG: Fri April 10th to 13th, Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre, London. America’s kids-rock superstar Dan Zanes presents four days of gigs for kids of all ages, offering under-tens the chance to experience their first proper gig in the hands of a real live rock star. Winner of a Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children, you'll thank god you've found him, especially if you can't take many more Lazy town tunes or singing dinosaurs for the foreseeable future- £9.   • * National Gallery
    * - Free Magic Carpet Story telling at the National Gallery
    for kids under 5 years. Every Sunday 11.30am to 12pm.
  • *Rich Mix Kids Cine Time: 35-47 Bethnal Green, Shoreditch. See reasonably recently released family films at affordable prices. Kids £1.50, with an accompanying adult Free, additional adults £1.50. Sat and Sundays at 11am. Upcoming films include, Grease, Flight of the Red Balloon, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, The Tale of Despereaux, and Kirikou & the Wild Beasts.
  • *Walking with Dinosaurs Theatre Breaks: The BBC TV series comes to life in this stunning arena tour with lifesize dinosaurs!, 1 Jul to 31 Aug + hotel
