Grenada family holidays

The beautiful, family-friendly island of Grenada is a wonderful destination for family holidays, with its large national park, some of the finest dive sites in the southern Caribbean, one of the prettiest towns in the West Indies, and waterfalls and other spectacular scenery to explore by hired jeep.

    What to Do

Snorkel. The beaches here receive regular visits from lots of different kinds of fish. Younger kids enjoy exploring the rockpools.

Visit St George’s, one of the prettiest towns in the Caribbean, with a lovely harbour area, and a bustling small town just behind it.

Walk in the Grand Etang National Park taking up much of the centre of the island – it's incredibly green and lush, with lakes, waterfalls and monkeys.

Head for the glorious 11km stretch of  white sand that is Grand Anse Beach, where it’s easy to find your own space. Seek out the little coves along the coastline, backed by palm trees where you can relax in the shade while the kids play.

    Where to Stay

For accommodation suited to family holidays on the island, see the right-hand column of this page.

As in most places, self-catering is the most economical and flexible option for family holidays, such as the Blue Horizons Garden Resort.

If however you are looking for hotel options, Virgin Holidays offer a great choice, including the Spice Island Beach Resort.

    When

Grenada is at its best between Christmas and Easter, when temperatures are high and you'll rarely see rain. In Dec, May and June you can get better prices but the weather is still great. July–Nov can be rather too wet and humid for family holidays.

    How

There are direct scheduled flights from Gatwick all year, taking around 11hrs and stopping in Tobago on the way. Weeky charter flights from Gatwick are often much better value, particularly during school holidays. See our flight deals and car-hire pages.

Grenada is GMT-4 - so factor some jetlag into family holidays.

    Eat

Fresh fish is a child-friendly speciality of restaurants on Grenada, but hotels offer Western favourites options for fussy eaters and, if you choose self-catering accommodation, you'll find it easy to get hold of familiar brands and foods on family holidays here.

    Cost

Budget about £2,500-3,500 for two-week family holidays on Grenada, with flights but without food, for 4 people. Self-catering can considerably cut costs as well as offering greater flexibility.
