Why

Grenada is a beautiful island, with a large national park perfect for family walks. It also has some of the finest dive sites in the southern Caribbean, and one of the prettiest towns in the West Indies, St. George's. Should you decide to explore the island, jeep hire can be arranged. It's a great way of visiting the waterfalls and seeing the spectacular scenery of the interior.

When

Grenada is at its very best between Christmas and Easter, the temperatures are high, and you'll rarely see any rain. In December, May and June you can get better prices, and the weather is still great. The months between July and November can be rather wet and humid, so best to avoid them if you can.

How

take the plane

There are direct scheduled flights with BA and Virgin from Gatwick operating throughout the year. These flights take around 11 hours, and stop in Tobago on the way. Because BA and Virgin operate many flights to the Caribbean, there's always the option of taking a 10-day holiday, or spending a few days on a different island on the way home. A cheaper alternative is a charter flight which currently operates from Gatwick. These flights depart once a week, and are often much better value, particularly during school holiday periods.

Stay

There are a number of family friendly accommodation options on the island. Our favourites for families include The Grenadian by Rex and the Spice Island Beach Resort. Note that many hotels will not allow young, if any, children during the peak winter weeks.

Do

Snorkelling. Excellent for the older children. The beaches receive regular visits from many different fish. The younger ones will enjoy exploring the rock pools by the edges.

Visit St George’s. It’s generally agreed that St George is one of the prettiest towns in the Caribbean. There’s a lovely harbour area, and a bustling small town just behind it.

Walking in the Grand Etang National Park is great. The park takes up much of the centre of the island, and is incredibly green and lush. There are lakes to visit, waterfalls to see and monkeys to watch.

Beach – the Grand Anse beach is a seven mile stretch of white sand, and it’s easy to find your own space. Alternatively, there are many little coves along the coastline backed by palm trees where you can relax in the shade whilst the children play.

Eat

Most of the restaurants catch fresh fish everyday. There are always other options for fussy eaters.

Cost

Approximately £2,500 – £3,500 for a two week holiday, with no food included, based on a family of four.
