Family Holidays Overview

Family Holidays: Mauritius family holidays

Why

Mauritius is pretty much the holiday paradise of your dreams. You've got never ending white sandy beaches, warm seas, fantastic service and great food. The hotels are incredibly child friendly for the most part, having large rooms and staff who are fantastic with the kids. The excellent restaurants are all used to children, so you can eat well and not be worried about anything.

When

Mauritius is an all-year-round kind of island. There's a short wet season from January to March, but even then the weather is still excellent. A side effect of this is that prices are similar all year round, with the exception of Christmas and Easter.

How

take the plane

Mauritius is 12 hours away, and there are regular flights. British Airways fly Heathrow to Mauritius three times a week, and Air Mauritius have five flights a week. The flights are often overnight both ways. Jet lag is unlikely to be an issue. Air Mauritius often have very reasonable prices if you want to upgrade to their club class. Check flight deals with Expedia.

Stay

Some of the world's finest hotels can be found in Mauritius and facilities for both children and adults are generally terrific. Quality comes at a price though.

Do

  • Kids club – almost all the hotels on the island have excellent kids clubs, so they'll make plenty of friends
  • Beaches – are among the best in the world, there is never ending white sand around the edges of the island
  • Snorkelling – have a look at the underwater life
  • Shopping in Grand Baie, the main town on the island, with lots of designer shopping

  • Sailing is available at some hotels

Eat

Mauritian food is a fantastic mix of French, Chinese and Indian cuisine, so there’s bound to be something for all the children.

Cost

Mauritius is not a cheap family holiday destination, though it is possible to find deals outside peak periods.
