Why
Norfolk has been popular with British families for years – stunning wide-open beaches backed by sand dunes, great countryside and good-old fashioned peace and quiet can be combined with more traditional seaside fun at places like Cromer.
Norfolk's population is now lower than it was in the Middle Ages and it's certainly not a tourist trap. For some families this may be too calm.

When
Spring and summer are ideal for the beach but Norfolk is still beautiful in the bracing winter weather. Don’t forget your wind break if the breeze gets up.
How
take the car
It's approximately two to three hours from London (journey can drag on in heavy traffic). Plus you'll need it to discover and explore Norfolk's villages and beaches.
Do
Take a boat trip to see the seals at Blakeney Point (boats actually leave from Moreston but tickets can be bought over the phone or from stands on the Quay at Blakeney). Visit The Shire Horse Centre at Runcton. Go crabbing. Feed the animals at Park Farm in Snettisham where horse and pony rides are also available. Take a ride on the Wells - Walsingham railway - a cute half hour ride on a miniature steam train! Visit the beautiful towns and villages in the area - Hunstanton (Sunny Hunny), Holt, Sheringham and Wells-next-the-sea are some of our favourites. Holkham beach is a must-see - parking costs £3 but as you walk over the boardwalk and see the beach with the sea glistening in the distance, it's worth every penny. Plus it's the perfect place to ride a horse. Go by car or better still bring your bikes and cycle round. Just walk along a deserted beach. Bootiful.
Eat
This is seafood country so don’t miss delicious lobsters and Cromer crabs. Take your own picnic to the beach. Fish and chips on the quay is a big tradition at Wells. Try The Victoria at Holkham in the summer as they do a lovely courtyard barbecue with kids portions for around £5 a burger, sausage or pasta plus a lovely prawn kebab for Mum and Dad. It also has a small kids playground.
Cost
Very reasonable. Hire a cottage for as little as £500 a week or go for luxury and pay the same for a few days.
