Emma Perry

Writer and journalist Emma Perry started her lone travels when her mother agreed to let her go to Kenya by herself for two months at the age of 15. Frankly, it was too young, but it was the start of many exciting trips to far-flung destinations, and when Emma got a job at Time Out magazine, she found she could still go on such trips and call it work. Horse-trekking in Limpopo, sailing around Corsica, learning to make pasta in Tuscany, hang-gliding on the South Downs, skiing as many times in a year as was humanly possible… It was a good life. When the kids came along, she vowed to continue the action-packed lifestyle but she has found that holidays with small children have to take a different form – one that is just as fun. She will not be letting either of her young daughters go to Kenya by themselves aged 15. Emma is the editor of Time Out’s annual guidebook ‘London for Children’ and also wrote the Suffolk half of the ‘Time Out Norfolk and Suffolk’ guide. She has written for The Guardian, The Sunday Times and The Independent.
