John Oldale has written for a number of national magazines, including Geographical, Real Travel and The Great Outdoors (TGO), edits the short-break website weekendblueprint.com and publishes ubernomad.com, a personal travel blog. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, speaks five languages and has more than 25 years of travel experience, covering around 90 countries worldwide.
The arrival two years ago of his son, Ben, triggered a deepening interest in the practicalities and rewards of family travel.
For John, travelling with a toddler is a continuing revelation: he loves their total lack of pre-conceptions, which forces you to look around you with fresh eyes. Ben is now pretty blasé about flying, but the shuttle-bus from the airport car-park kills him with excitement every time.
John's opportunities for astonishment have recently doubled by the appearance of Ben's little brother Sam.
