7 Tips for Family Villa Holidays to Remember

Everyone knows the benefits of renting a villa for a family holiday – more space, the flexibility of eating at home and the money that can save, and the way it allows you levels of luxury you might not otherwise not be able to stretch to, such as a private pool. We’ve looked at ways to ensure that your next villa holiday is your best ever.

• Don’t scrimp on space, especially if you're holidaying with friends, other families or grandparents. You’ll all appreciate time out from each other during your stay, and not everyone will appreciate your toddler’s early risings or your teens’ desire to hang out ’til the early hours.
Recommended villa: Villa Carmen, Ibiza

• Choose a villa that will let you travel light – one with toys and games, and perhaps games consoles, suited to your kids’ ages, plus any baby or toddler equipment you might need.
Recommended villa: Villa Aktea, Crete

• Again, with younger kids, look for plenty of garden space in which to run around and perhaps some play equipment.
Recommended villa: Villa Nascente, Algarve

• If a beach is important to you, make sure to check walking or driving distances from the closest to ensure that it’s feasible as often as the kids want to go.
Recommended villa: Villa Olympians Beach, Cyprus

• If holidaying as a group, make sure everyone has some input into what they want to do – including the kids. As nobody can be happy all of the time, all family holidays are made up of little trade-offs – if you want to visit a museum or vineyard, ‘bribe’ the kids with the promise of a waterpark or similar later in the day
Recommended villa: Villa Carolina, Menorca

• Try to live like a local. A villa can give you blissful seclusion if that’s what you seek, but that’s all the more reason to get out and about taking advantage of local markets and authentic restaurants.
Recommended villa: Petrinos Cottage, Corfu

• Hire a car. Unless you’re in the centre of a resort or large village, you’re likely to want to get around under your own steam, whether it’s to shop or to explore and see local attractions.
Recommended villa: Villa Gonos, Rhodes
