Can All-Inclusive Holidays be Adventurous Too?

Here at Takethefamily we try to inspire parents to consider all kinds of holidays with their kids, from wild camping to adventure and activity breaks in exotic countries. But we firmly believe that sometimes what you may need to do more than anything is go somewhere where you can flop on the beach or by the pool for at least some of the time while your kids have fun nearby or with new friends at a kids' club.

And so we were pleased to see some of our favourite family-friendly properties make it onto TripAdvisor's recent Travellers' Choice list of the best all-inclusive resorts around the globe. One of them, Beaches Negril, was also rated best hotel for families in the Caribbean.

The benefits of all-inclusive resorts are clear: in these cash-strapped times, it's great to pay to know your holiday costs in advance, allowing you to relax while you're actually there. Your holiday may not be cheap, but you're not spending precious relaxation time worrying about how many ice creams your kids are ordering or about having that second beer by the pool.

But it doesn't have to be all about the resort, even on an all-inclusive holiday. On recent trips to Jamaica, our writer Rhonda and her sons tried a few excursions around the island, from visits to local schools as part of a literacy program to swimming in sea-caves and mountain bobsleighing. Naturally, this such activities will cost you extra, but choose judiciously and you can get out and about and see more of your destination without breaking the bank.

As well as Beaches Negril, we recommend the following TripAdvisor Award-winning all-inclusive properties with kids:

Kurumba Village, Maldives

Club Med Ixtapa Pacific, Mexico

Club Med Palmiye, Turkey

Voyage Belek Golf and Spa, Turkey
