Top 10 Tips for Making the Most of Your Time in Orlando

Florida is one of our favourite family holiday destinations, but with so much fun on offer, it can be a struggle to fit it all in – especially in Orlando with all its world-class themeparks and other attractions.

We’ve asked our friends at Attraction Tickets Direct to share their expert ideas for making the most of your time in the world’s themepark capital.

• If you're new to Orlando, consider visiting one of the smaller parks first and working your way up to the bigger ones.

• Wear comfortable shoes! – you’ll be walking long distances.

• Stay at an on-site hotel. Guests at Disney properties can visit those parks during daily Magic Hours, when queues are much shorter. Meanwhile, all Universal Orlando hotels allow you to enter Universal Parks before they open to the public, and three Universal Hotels (Portofino Bay, Hard Rock and The Royal Pacific) also entitle you to Universal Express.

• Avoid US school holidays if you can. As a rough guide, the US spring break coincides with the beginning of our Easter school holidays. In summer, American schools generally go back in the third week of August. Also avoid Thanksgiving weekend (usually the third weekend of November).

• Get to the parks early. It seems obvious, but many people don’t. The savviest visitors arrive early, go back to make the most of their hotel pool during the real heat of the day, then return to the parks for a few more rides and to some fireworks.

• Head for the newest rides first - they are often the most popular, and queues will only mount during the day.

• Start at the back of the park and work your way towards the front – most people will be doing the opposite.

• Pre-book Disney rides 30 days in advance using Disney’s FastPass+ system.

• Pre-purchase real tickets in advance – if you get vouchers, you’ll have to queue at the gate to exchange them.

• Don't overlook the spectacular shows in Orlando; and if you pre-book your tickets before you leave the UK, you can save up to 50% on the adult box-office price.
