Atlas Mountains & Sahara Desert Family Adventure

Day 1 - Arrive in Marrakech

Meet your guide and the other families in your group, and perhaps have time to explore a little if you arrive early.

Day 2 - Atlas Mountains

Head high into the Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n'Tichika Pass and learn about the Berber comunities who have lived here for centuries.  On arrival in Tighza, take a gentle circular walk around the village before settling in a family-owned guesthouse.

Day 3 - Valley Hike & Ait Ben Haddou

Hike out into the valley to learn about the cultivation methods which channel meltwater from snow to serve the fields and villages. Rejoining the bus, you then head along the Ounila Valley to the famous kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Morocoo's most famousspots, once important for trading between the city and the desert. The afternoon is free to relax by the pool, or join a walking tour.

Day 4 - Bike Ride

Grab your bikes and cycle down the Draa Valley to the town of Ourzazate -it's about 21km (with a support vehicle nearby in case anyone tires). Known as 'the doorway to the desert' Ourzazate is home to the Atlas Film Studios, one of the largest in the world. Films made here include The Mummy, Gladiator, Babel and Lawrence of Arabia. Visit the studios and famous film sets before heading to a hotel for lunch and a cooling swim. Later, you'll drive on through the Draa Valley to Tamnougalt, where you'll stay in a kasbah-style hotel.

Day 5 - Sahara Desert Camp

Today you'll drive to Zagora for lunch before continuing to Ouled Driss, on the edge of the sand dunes. Camels will form a caravan to take you into the Oued Ben Akki dunes and your overnight camp, in time for an afternoon bread-making session. Enjoy a hearty Berber meal under the stars before settling down in your 2- or 3-4 person tents for the night.

Day 6 - Tamegroute & Potting

Returning to the bus by camel, you'll then head to Tamegroute, to visit the 17th-century zaouia (a space for worship and learning). Then you'll visit a local potter before returning to Ouarzazate.

Day 7 - Marrakech

Back in Marrakech, enjoy a walking tour of the souks and city sights such as the Koutoubia (booksellers') Mosque, Bahia Palace and the medina, where you'll visit a traditional bakery to sample some pastries. 

Day 8 - Time to go home...or stay on

The tour ends so you can either fly home or we can arrange additional nights of your choice. Discuss when planning your trip with us.
