
Kenya Active Safari Adventure
Combine the wonder of safari with a range of thrilling activities on this fantastic adventure safari in Kenya. Starting and ending in Nairobi, you'll travel to the Sagana River, Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara, collectively giving you the opportunity to encounter a huge variety of wildlife. And it's not all about the wildlife. Along the way, you'll paddle, hike, cycle and zipline - this really is such a fun trip.
This is a small-group trip, where you'll be with other like-minded families and led by experienced guides and qualified activity instructors. The recommended minimum age is 10 years.
As well as enjoying a mix of activities, culture and wildlife experiences, you'll stay in some wonderful accommodation, with a combination of lodges with cottages and camps with safari tents - some more rustic than others - all adding to the adventure. Most of your meals are included, along with drinking water throughout the trip. You can expect a mix of local and international dishes, and specific dietary requirements can be catered for, but do let us know at the point of booking so we can make the arrangements.
Itinerary
Day 1: From Nairobi to Sagana
Travel from the airport to settle into your riverside camp in Sagana. In the afternoon, choose from a selection of activities such as archery or climbing.
Day 2: White-water Rafting & Hiking
Spend the morning on a 3-hour rafting trip on the Sagana River, looking out for wildlife and navigating some exciting rapids. Later, head off through the forest on a hike up Kaimbichu Hill, for spectacular views across the plains to Mount Kenya, in the distance.
Day 3: Rock Climbing & Water Fun
Baboon Crag offers a choice of climbing routes, as well as a river nearby for a cooling dip while waiting your turn. In the afternoon, you have a choice of water-based activities such as paddleboarding and kayaking.
Day 4: Zipline & Lake Naivasha
First thing today, you'll zip your way across the river on the Jangwani Zipline. Then it's off to Lake Naivasha, where you'll head out for an evening game drive.
Day 5: Cycle Safari, Nature Walk & Boat Safari
Lots on today - starting with a cycle safari through Hell's Gate National Park, looking out for zebra, giraffe and antelope. In the afternoon, a guide from Sanctuary Farm will take you on a 2-hour nature walk, to learn about the Rift Valley ecosystem. Then finally, you hop into boats for a water safari - look out for hippos, eagles and other species that call the lake home.
Day 6: Masai Mara Cultural Camp
Arriving at the Masai Mara Cultural Camp, one of the tribes people, will take you for a walk in the hills and teach you about local medicines and key warrior skills. You'll stay overnight at the camp.
Day 7: Masai Cultural Day & Masai Mara Game Reserve
Today, you have an early start, to help out on the camp with the milking of the cows and goats. Then it's off to the Ladies' Villa to make some jewellery and learn more about their way of life. In the afternoon, you head off to a lodge in the Oloolaimutia Hills of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
Day 8: Game Drives in the Masai Mara National Reserve
A full day of game drives gives you the chance to spot lots of different wildlife, such as lion, rhino and elephant.
Day 9: Return to Nairobi
Leaving the Masai Mara behind, you'll head back to Nairobi today, with the afternoon free to relax at the hotel or explore the local area.
Day 10: Depart Nairobi
It's time to say goodbye today and either fly back to the UK, or take the opportunity to fly to the coast for a few days, with a 4-day Indian Ocean extension in Watamu.
Indian Ocean Add-On
If you're like to extend the trip, you also have the option of flying on to Watamu for a 4-night extension at a beachside resort, where you can take a dhow safari in search of dolphins, visit a local village to learn some traditional skills, visit a secret island...or just kick back and relax on the beach.
