The St Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino sits on the south-east coast of St Kitts, close to Basseterre, the capital, which is choc-a-bloc with Georgian buildings inherited from the Colonial era and great to visit for a feel of Caribbean life; combine a visit there with a trip to St Kitts Scenic Railway for a leisurely 18-mile stretch along the coast. Sea and forested mountains abound, so families looking to explore the region with a pair of hiking boots as well as sit back and enjoy all of the facilities at the resort, have struck gold.
The resort can be pricey, but if you opt for the all-inclusive, it lessens the blow.
Families can journey around the world via the eight restaurants showcasing international cuisine, although kids may stick with Italy by the pool as the shack there serves pizza and ice-cream. Bars keep parents happy and any number of activities both on water and off should entertain people of all ages (horse-riding, sailing, snorkelling). Flash come cash at the casino (a strictly over 18s policy so put the kids in the kids’ club) or head to the spa.
Rooms are spacious and fairly simply furnished and come with their own balconies so you can sit back and enjoy the views.
