Within an easy drive of both Calais and Dunkirk ferry ports, and with Bruges a short drive away, Belgium's Center Parcs Park De Haan (formerly called Sun Park De Haan aan zee) is an ideal year-round family destination, whether for a weekend getaway, a short break during half term, or a longer stay during the main summer school holidays. Brimming with facilities and things to do for all ages, it's fantastic for active families: try your hand at archery, tennis and bowling, and have fun in the indoor play areas and playgrounds. There are also kids' activities including arts and crafts and baking.
Perhaps the biggest selling point of Park De Haan is its tropical water complex complete with indoor and outdoor pools, wave machines, slides and paddling pool. There is also an on-site cycle centre where you can hire bikes to explore the park and surrounding areas on two wheels. And if you want to head further afield, nearby attractions include the popular family theme park Plopsaland, the Sea Life Centre in Blankenberge, and the culture-soaked (and chocolate-rich) city of Bruges.
Just a few minutes' walk from the coast (this area is home to the country's longest beach), the holiday park has a lake, which some of the accommodation overlooks. Other holiday homes have private gardens. All have the essentials for a comfortable stay, including fully equipped kitchens. But several places to eat on-site, whether for a snack or a proper meal, mean you can take a break from cooking too.
