Recently revamped, Hotel Rila is now an all-singing and dancing family-friendly hotel conveniently placed in the middle of the Bulgarian resort of Borovets, opposite the ski lifts. The resort is modern and while the ambiance of a traditional Alpine village may not be apparent, families will benefit from a full range of facilities and activities, all at good value and, of course the slopes, which are particularly good for beginners.
One of the hotels’ main draws has to be the enormous pool, housed in a glass building to make the most of the views. There’s also a spa, gym and whirlpool. The hotel is on a half-board basis with two buffet restaurants for hot and cold breakfasts and dinners and an à la carte restaurant (extra). There are shops and a hairdresser, which you can pop into before hitting the hotel nightclub (book a room far away if you want a quiet night). The hotel has its own kids’ club (ages 1-6; recommended by Crystal) and there’s also ski tuition for kids aged 4-6 years.
Rooms are spacious, modern and bright and follow the clean lines of the rest of the hotel, sleeping up 3 in twin beds with room for a cot.
