Family-friendly places to stay in France

With its great fresh produce, France is the ideal place for a purse-pleasing self-catering break – which makes it all the more felicitous that the country is packed with gîtes, villas, holiday villages, campsites, farm-stays and city and ski apartments to suit every configuration of family. Hotels, meanwhile, are cheaper than their equivalents in the UK, meaning you might be able to splash out on anything from a crumbling but atmospheric château to a five-star palace with a kids’ club.  Or do as snails do and take your accommodation with you – some parts of France are just made for motorhoming.

Family adventure or learning holidays (see Trips tab) are yet another way of discovering this fantastic country.
