Things to do with kids in Paxos

Hit the capital Gaios with its Venetian-fronted harbour, market and restaurants and its dodgy disco for teens.

Explore picturesque Loggos, the smallest of the three villages, with fishing caiques, yachts and little motorboats moored in its tiny harbour. Evenings its small village square becomes a lively, cosmopolitan meeting spot.

Head for Lakka, which combines the charm of a former fishing village with a range of watersports.

Discover the island by motorboat, or take an express sea taxi from Gaios across to the marvellous sandy beaches of Anti-Paxos, its tiny sister.

Eat

Fish can be expensive here, as anywhere in Greece, but most tavernas offer an imaginative variety of traditional favourites and a good selection of wines for convivial eating out on family holidays. The capital Gaios may have the greater range of places to eat, but for such a tiny village, Loggos has an amazing number of restaurants and cafés, in the harbour square and hidden away down alleyways.

When to go to Paxos

The best months for family holidays on Paxos are May or June, when the island is at its greenest and you will have a beach to yourself. But don’t be put off by high season – Gaios, Loggos and Lakka really come to life then, with kids playing late into the summer evenings.

The end of August sees the Paxos International Music Festival, when prizewinning young musicians may inspire your kids to keep going with those flute lessons after all.

Cost

With most visitors to Paxos likely to self-cater, and an absence of overpriced touristy restaurants, family holidays here can be pleasantly inexpensive.
