How to get to Budapest

Budapest’s international airport has flights from the UK (about two hours 20 minutes) by the national airline Malév plus a number of UK operators, some of them low-cost. There are also flights from Dublin.

The airport is 16km from the centre, with good public transport links. If you do take a taxi, agree a fare in advance (a guideline is 4,000–6,000 forints).

For information on getting to Budapest by train, see our Man in Seat 61 (seat.61.com).

Flat, urban Pest is separated from more leafy and residential Buda by the Danube, with the city centre at Deak ter, where the three metro lines meet. The main pedestrian shopping street is Váci utca, running parallel to the Danube.
