The Marella Explorer is Marella's most recent addition to their family-friendly fleet of ships and they've planned it out to meet the needs of families of all shapes and sizes with children from babies to teens.

You'll be spoilt for choice on board with so much to do and see - the pool, sports, daytime entertainment, the kids' club, the teen area, the spa - not to mention the amazing shows in the Broadway Show Lounge theatre. And that's just while you're at sea. There's also a full programme of shore excursions to choose from at each port, including many that are specifically family-friendly such as exploring an aquarium or heading to the beach.

The ship has cabins that sleep up to five as well as interconnecting cabins. With so much to do on the ship, you may just want to opt for an interior cabin. Alternatively, there are cabins with their own balcony (many with a hammock to relax in as you enjoy the views) and suites which give you a bit more space.

During the year, you can choose from a variety of cruise itineraries with the Marella Explorer. Options include the following areas:

  • Mediterranean
  • Adriatic
  • Greek Islands
  • Canary Islands
  • Morocco
  • Madeira

Christmas and New Year are popular times to cruise and Marella makes sure the ships are really festive, decking them out with Christmas trees and decorations, adding festive favourites to the menus and of course offering a Christmas dinner too - turkey, sprouts, pigs in blankets - and no washing up! There will also be festive entertainment, including Christmas carols and a visit from Father Christmas. Over New Year there will be special events too, including a countdown on New Year's Eve.

Flights are available from many UK airports to the destination where you join the ship.

Onboard the Marella Explorer there is a kids' club for children 3-11 years old. In high season this is split into two groups - usually 3-7 and 9-11, depending on the number of children on board. Activities on offer include crafts and games, and in high season they also have a kids' show.

For older children, there is The Hideout - a teen area with games consoles, comfy seating, air hockey, etc.

For younger children, there are Babytainment classes such as baby ballet. For these, children must be accompanied by an adult.
