El Palauet Hotel, Barcelona

A super-stylish and quite quirky option for family holidays and breaks in Barcelona, El Palauet occupies an incredible Modernista building (formerly a shipbuilding family's mansion) on the swanky Passeig de Gràcia, complete with much of its historic decor. Its six stunning, spacious 'suites' sleep up to 4, with plenty of space for a cot for ages up to 2 (or your own travel cot). There's a kitchenette and dining room in each for self-catering, but the number of fantastic restaurants nearby will probably tempt you out – or your personal chef will arrange a personal chef to conjure up a full meal, snacks or even a picnic, and prepare a daily breakfast in your apartment. There's also a room-service menu. Parents shouldn't miss the glorious rooftop spa with its waterbeds and hot tub.
