In an unspoilt, fairly remote location yet just a short transfer from the airport (ideal when travelling with young kids), the Ritz-Carlton is a popular choice for luxury family holidays in Tenerife, with a highly rated kids' club, a private golden-sand beach with natural pools (accessed via a funicular), a tennis academy and – for adult playtime – a superb clifftop golf course, Michelin-starred dining (from sushi to 'celestial picnics' on the sand), a rum bar with a cigar sommelier and botanic tours of the lush gardens.
The Ritz Kids children's program was devised by explorer and adventurer Jean-Michel Cousteau and includes immersive experiences that teach kids about protecting the natural world in a fun way, as well as the likes of pizza workshops and treasure hunts. It's designed for ages 4-12, but under-fours have access to the kids' club facilities if accompanied by a parent. Young kids and teens also get their own treatments in the volcanic spa, plus access to its aquatic facilities at certain times.
Exclusive areas include the 'Villa' with its shared pools, and Club Level, with access to a lounge with complimentary drinks and snacks. All rooms are chic in a low-key, unshowy way; look out for discounts on a second room for children (guaranteed interconnecting rooms are available). Otherwise, two children up to 11 years of age stay free in a parent's room.
Accommodation includes eight two-bedroom family suites that can connect to a twin to sleep up to nine, making this a great choice for large families or for holidays with grandparents or other families. These suites feature bespoke touches including kids’ bath amenities, bathrobes and mini slippers, and a creative children’s minibar.
