Sweden is easy to reach, with frequent flights from a range of UK airports to Stockholm (3 airports; 2 of them 100km from the city itself), Gothenburg and Malmö, some by low-cost operators. Flights from London to Stockholm take about 3hrs.

Those visiting southern Sweden could also fly to Copenhagen in Denmark, as the airport is on an island between the Danish capital and Swedish Malmö, cities that are linked by the spectacular Øresund Bridge.

For getting to the far north of Sweden, see our Lapland page. One atmospheric way to reach Lapland for those not in a hurry is via the Inlandsbanan train, which passes through spectacular scenery and lets out a shrieking whistle as it crosses into the Arctic Circle.
